Carley N. Windorff is a partner at Wisconsin First Responder Lawyers, a division of MacGillis Law Group, LLC. Carley focuses her practice on representing first responders, including police and firefighter unions, across the State of Wisconsin. With a deep commitment to advocating for those who protect and serve their communities, Carley’s experience and personal connection to first responders make her an invaluable asset to the firm.
Born and raised in Northeast Wisconsin, Carley is a first-generation attorney with a lifelong passion for reading and writing. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English & Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota and later pursued a law degree to combine her love of writing with a desire to create positive change. Carley earned her law degree from the University of St. Thomas Law School in Minneapolis, MN, where she was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship and the Dean’s Award for her academic achievements. She also gained valuable legal experience through clerkships with The Honorable Daniel C. Moreno, the Minnesota Aids Project, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota.
After law school, Carley returned to Northeast Wisconsin, where she began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for Brown County. In this role, Carley developed a strong litigation practice, successfully trying numerous criminal cases and gaining expertise in the rules of evidence and criminal procedures. Her work as a prosecutor and her relationships with first responders in the justice system provide a strong foundation for her work at MacGillis Law Group and Wisconsin First Responder Lawyers.
In 2018, Carley launched her own solo practice, where she expanded her areas of expertise to include family law, labor and employment law, law enforcement defense, estate planning, and small business consulting. Throughout her career, Carley has represented police officers and firefighters in grievance proceedings, arbitrations, disciplinary actions, terminations, and officer-involved shootings and critical incidents.
Carley is particularly passionate about advocating for Wisconsin’s first responders, as she is the spouse of a law enforcement officer and understands firsthand the sacrifices made by first responders and their families. She has been an active member of the Green Bay Area chapter of Shielded Hearts since 2014.
When she is not advocating for her clients, Carley enjoys spending time with her three young children and engaging in activities like reading, gardening, hiking, and yoga.
